Announcing: Charles Perry Cain

Charlie made his appearance on Thursday, October 1 at 2:09 in the afternoon. I’m going to write a separate post later on the birth story, but for now I wanted to let everybody know how we are doing and this is the easiest way.

We just finished a feeding, and Nana (my mom) is snuggling with Charlie, so I’ve got a few minutes to write. I can’t believe how fast each day goes. I theoretically understood that you were run ragged the first few days and didn’t get any sleep, etc, etc…but it’s completely different actually living it. I haven’t gotten out of my pajamas before noon any day since he was born, but we are having so much fun. He’s such a good baby! He eats well and sleeps good, too. Last night I even got a 3 hour stretch of sleep (I probably just jinxed myself).

It’s been a long time since I was around a new born for anything more than 30 minutes, and I was so surprised at how tiny he is, and yet how much of a little person he is already. We have discovered what was pushing on my so much in the womb – it was his arms/hand because he has them constantly in motion and can hardly stand for them to be swaddled down – he has such a strong grip for such a teeny person. His eyes have started focusing and it’s fun to watch him look at us and start processing our faces.

Travis is absolutely in love with him. He loves to snuggle him close to his neck (which has led me to impose a strict shaving rule on Travis so that he doesn’t scratch the baby – I even heard him shaving last night at around 1 AM while I fed the baby because he wanted to hold him to put him back in the bassinet), stare at him, and even laugh at him because makes the funniest faces and sounds.

Okay – sorry all this was just a jumble of thoughts, but I really do have “mommy” brain and can’t even remember what day it is (it rained all day yesterday and I didn’t even know it until about 7 last night – shows how oblivious we are).

We appreciate all the people who have called and sent texts and emails. I apologize if I haven’t responded yet, but I’m still trying to figure out where the time goes. We can’t wait for you all to meet Charlie, and I’ll leave you with a couple photos.
