Panic from Home

Charlie has been eating rice cereal from a spoon every evening now for a week. Travis has yet to feed it to him..mainly because I like to do it when I get home from work and then Travis was off at a men’s retreat most of the weekend. I tried to start giving the cereal at breakfast as well yesterday, but it didn’t go so well, and Charlie’s eating seemed a little off all day long. I think that is partly to do with the fact that he is always slightly thrown off when he goes to Mother’s Day Out – he thrives so much better being at home with Dana and having her keep him on an eating and napping schedule – I don’t know exactly what it is, but I know that the two of them have it worked out and I almost always come home to a happy Charlie and happy (but tired) nanny who kisses Charlie goodbye on MWF.

Anyways, I was settling into a tax return when my office phone rang at 8:30 this morning. It was Travis and Dana together and I could hear Charlie making a ruckus in the background. Charlie had apparently eaten all of his bottle in record speed (the bottle was 7 oz and also included a tablespoon of rice in it), and was still fussing. They needed something else…more milk seemed a little excessive, so they called for the rice cereal “recipe”. Neither of them had a clue how to make the stuff or even what consistency it should be. Have you ever tried to describe consistency over the telephone – it’s hard. They figured it out and I called back to check on them and could hear Charlie sporadically fussing every few seconds. I asked Trav if he wasn’t liking the cereal…but the problem was actually that Dana couldn’t shovel it in fast enough for Charlie’s taste. He’s big, he’s fat, if he doesn’t start crawling soon we may have to put him on the Weight Watchers program…how many points do you think a bottle of breastmilk is?

In the crawling department, we are making progress. He can currently shuffle himself around in a circle – like a man in a boat with only one oar. He does this if you put him down facing the opposite way of where the action is and he also does this at night while he sleeps. He can also really raise his torso off the ground, and raise his little bottom off the ground by pushing up on his legs. He just can’t do those two things simultaneously and get that belly off the ground. He wants it though, sooooo bad.
